Evangeline Leventhal

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year!  It is an exciting time to be a world language student at Tate High School and in Escambia County School District!  My colleagues and I have been working all summer to streamline our curriculum to American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards, to provide authentic resources for students in the target language, and to create real-world opportunities for students to truly connect with the cultures they are studying and apply learnings to their daily lives.

My name is Madame Evangeline Leventhal, and this is my 9th year teaching French at Tate.  My passion for the French language and culture began early, given that I was born in Montreal, Canada and my father hailed from French-Creole-speaking Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  Also, I spent my Junior year of high school as a Rotary International exchange student in Charleroi, Belgium, where I attended a Catholic school and lived with several different host families - total immersion in French!

Experiencing Europe as a teen solidified my lifelong desire to travel the world!  I travel with my family every chance I get, and every summer I host international trips for students, including 9 countries in the past 5 years! (Ready for Covid-19 to be a thing of the past!)

Something unique about my classroom this year is that it is deskless!  With just chairs, and a few tables on reserve when needed, we are able to do many things together in class that help create authentic learning opportunities...skits, dialogues, partner exercises, small group projects, have culture days, etc.  Students play a major role in the flow of class, and we have fun trying new things!

I am thankful for the opportunity to teach French, and consider it a privilege to watch my Tate Aggies grow in the French language and in life each year.
