WHEN DID THIS START?
The Class 2020 of was the first cohort of students eligible for this program. We currently have nearly 80 students!
HOW DO I JOIN?
Eligible students are invited to join the Institute in January of their Freshman year and the summer prior to their Sophomore year.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN?
Personalized education plan and support from faculty advisors
Access to a study and relaxation area
AP/DE classes in various subjects and electives with weighted credit
Flexibility to participate in other electives and extra-curricular activities
National recognition as an AP Scholar
Special recognition in Tahisco
Regalia at graduation
I RECEIVED AN INVITATION, NOW WHAT?
Congratulations!
Along with your invitation you should have received a welcome letter, a copy of our contract and information about a meeting.
Please attend the meeting with your parent/guardian for more information.
WHAT IS THE GPA REQUIREMENT?
Eligible students must maintain a 3.75 weighted GPA. Grades are calculated in January and June. If a student falls below the GPA requirement, they will be placed on probation for a semester. If their GPA does not improve, they will be removed from the Institute.
ARE ANY CLASSES REQUIRED?
All students must take AP Human Geography. It is the only AP/DE class available for freshman.
Interested eighth graders are encouraged to register for this course.
HOW MANY AP/DE CLASSES DO I HAVE TO TAKE?
Over the course of fours years, students must take at least eight (8) AP/DE classes.
DE math courses count separately (ex: DE Pre-Calculus and DE Calculus count as two classes).
AP Government and AP Macroeconomics are semester courses.
WHY DO I SIGN A CONTRACT?
The contract indicates that both the student and the parent/guardian understand and adhere to all of the terms of the Institute.
HOW CAN I SAVE MONEY IN COLLEGE?
Passing 1 AP/DE course is equivalent to 3 college credit hours / 1 course. Currently, UWF charges $650 per course, plus textbooks.
Students complete many college pre-requisites, leaving time for a double major, travel opportunities or a jump start on a graduate degree.
Students who pass 5 out of 8 AP exams prior to their senior year will be a candidate for a special scholarship.
I DON'T THINK THIS IS FOR ME. CAN I STILL TAKE AP/DE CLASSES?
Of course! AP/DE classes are open to all qualified students. Just note that after freshman year, invitations will no longer be extended to current students.
WHAT IS I DON'T WANT TO BE A PART OF THE INSTITUTE ANYMORE?
We will be sad to see you go!
Students that wish to exit the Institute must provide a letter from their parent/guardian requesting removal. Students will be dismissed at the end of the semester but they will not be withdrawn from their current coursework. This does not disqualify students from taking future AP/DE classes.
